(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, officially certified the results today for the March 4, 2025 Special Election. 

The Special Election was held to vote on one county charter amendment, Measure A. The measure asked voters whether to amend the San Mateo County Charter to grant the Board of Supervisors the authority, to remove an elected Sheriff for cause, with a four-fifths vote of the Board. Measure A passed overwhelmingly, with 90,900 votes (84.00%) in favor, and 17,318 (16.00%) opposed.

Of the county's 444,497 registered voters, 108,346 participated in the election, for a turnout of 24.37%. Nearly all ballots—106,639 (98.42%)—were cast by mail, while 1,707 (1.58%), were cast in person at vote centers.

Election results are certified following the completion of the Canvass of the Vote, which must be conducted within 30 days of the election. This process includes a One Percent Manual Tally to verify the accuracy of the results.

The Official Election Results are published in the Statement of the Vote, available on the San Mateo County Registration & Elections website at www.smcacre.gov. These results provide a detailed breakdown of votes by precinct and major districts. The public is encouraged to review, download, or print a complete copy of the election results.
