To be married in the state of California, you must obtain a marriage license and be married within 90 days of the date the license was issued. You may be married anywhere in the state of California.
You may be married by a priest, rabbi, minister or other authorized person of your choice, or by a Deputy Marriage Commissioner in a civil ceremony in the County Clerk’s Chapel.
Effective July 1, 2021, the County Clerk-Recorder Division will resume in-person civil wedding ceremonies in the County Chapel. Appointments can be made online.
February 16, 2022: In alignment with the State, San Mateo County will lift universal mask requirements for vaccinated people in most indoor public settings.
