(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer and Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder for San Mateo County, today announced the official certification of the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election following the completion of the official canvass.

"The certification of an election marks the culmination of weeks of careful work by our Elections team and the successful participation of our voters," said Church. "I am pleased to announce the official certification of the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election."

On Election Day, San Mateo County had 447,306 registered voters. A total of 202,086 ballots were cast, resulting in a voter turnout of 45.18 percent. Of those ballots, 189,665 (93.85 percent) were returned by mail, while 12,421 (6.15 percent) were cast in person at Vote Centers throughout the county.

Under California law, election officials complete a comprehensive official canvass before certifying election results. Conducted within 30 days following the election, the canvass includes numerous verification and auditing procedures, including the One Percent Manual Tally, to confirm the accuracy and integrity of the election results.

"Providing voters with multiple secure and convenient ways to cast a ballot has been a cornerstone of our election system," said Church. "The continued use of Official Ballot Drop Boxes and curbside ballot drop-off at Vote Centers reflects voters' confidence in these accessible voting options."

"I would also like to extend a special thank you to the students who participated in our Student Democracy Program," added Church. "Our Student Democracy Ambassadors made a meaningful contribution on Election Day by assisting voters with curbside ballot collection and line management at Vote Centers. Their dedication, professionalism, and willingness to serve their community were truly inspiring. We are grateful for the important role they played in helping make this election a success."

The official election results, published in the Statement of the Vote, are available on the San Mateo County Registration & Elections website. The Statement of the Vote provides a comprehensive breakdown of election results by precinct and major district. Members of the public may view, download, or print the complete certified election results from the website.
