(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, San Mateo County Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder and Chief Elections Officer, announced the Department’s website has moved to a government domain. The website can now be reached at www.smcacre.gov.
“Moving to a government domain is an important step in helping the public quickly identify our website as a trusted government source. The Department of the Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder and Elections (ACRE) provides a vast array of information, services, and data. Using a .gov domain gives citizens and voters confidence that they are looking at official and correct information,” stated Church. “I invite the community to explore our website,” Church added.
All .gov domains are managed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). They are made available only to U.S.-based government organizations and publicly controlled entities after verification. Other domains like .org and .com can be registered to anyone, and malicious actors have sought to impersonate government agencies using non .gov domains.
The ACRE Election’s website at www.smcvote.org has also moved to a government domain at www.smcvote.gov. During an election, this page has information needed by a voter such as where to vote in person, how to track their ballot, how to view their sample ballot and official voter information guide, and how to find results. The prior websites’ URLs have now been redirected to www.smcacre.gov and www.smcvote.gov addresses.
Along with the new ACRE website, www.smcacre.gov, the email address extension for Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder and Elections staff have been updated to @smcacre.gov. The prior email address extension @smcacre.org will remain active for the foreseeable future and emails sent to @smcacre.org will be forwarded to the @smcacre.gov address.
Questions regarding the new website domain names may be directed to Asa Chung, Graphics Specialist, at 650.599.1787 or achung@smcacre.gov.
