(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder of San Mateo County, certified the election results today for the November 8, 2022 Statewide General Election.

“San Mateo County is pleased to announce the certification of the November 8, 2022 Statewide General Election,” stated Chief Elections Officer Mark Church.

“On Election Day, there were 432,707 registered voters in San Mateo County. Total voter turnout was 58.29%, more than 7% higher than the statewide voter turnout of 50.79%,” added Church.

Of the 252,233 ballots cast, 234,272, or nearly 93%, were Vote by Mail ballots, and 17,961 ballots, or approximately 7%, were cast at Vote Centers. In-person voting at Vote Centers increased from previous elections.

“Voters appreciate and took advantage of the many voting options available to them under the California Voter’s Choice Act, including the use of Drop Boxes and Curbside Ballot Drop Off at Vote Centers,” noted Church.

“I want to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the 134 students from 21 high schools who participated in our award-winning Student Democracy Program. Our Student Democracy Ambassadors provided invaluable and essential services for voters at Vote Centers and curbside collection drop-off locations,” said Church.

The Chief Elections Officer officially certifies the results of the election upon completion of the Canvass of the Vote, which is completed during the 30 days following an election. During that time, a One Percent Manual Tally of the votes is conducted to confirm the accuracy of the election results.

The Official Election Results, published in the Statement of the Vote, are posted on the San Mateo County Registration & Elections website, smcacre.org. These official election results provide a complete picture of the election, with vote totals broken down by precinct, jurisdiction, and the method in which the ballots were cast.
